Finding Community in Western NC

Our story began 5 years ago when Robert and I started pursuing our dream of becoming more sustainable and self-sustaining members of society. As we searched for locations for our homestead, we found beautiful Green Mountain, NC. Our homestead is something we have grown to love in and of itself, but we love the community even more. Not only do we have ample space to grow and raise anything and everything we want, but we are also surrounded by a culturally-rich community whose members do much the same as we do.

The community received us with open arms, and we appreciate the friends for life that we have made here. We do the best we can to return that favor by being welcoming to anyone who visits our farm. Our community can only learn and grow through collaboration and partnership. We do our best to contribute what we can to help our neighbors and friends around us, and in return, receive invaluable knowledge of the area and industry that we love.

Partnerships Made

We are proud to partner with local businesses like The Orchard at Altapass, Just Local Market, and Farm Bureau Co-Op Women’s Committee. We are always looking to make new friends and meet new people as we continue to grow at Bunny and the Bee Farm. However, we’re already so excited about our current partnerships. We look forward to creating and participating in a local homesteading festival with the Farm Bureau Co-Op Women’s Committee, and several of our other friends in the community.

Currently, Just Local Market and The Orchard at Altapass are a couple of our biggest sellers of Bunny and the Bee Honey. Local family businesses like these guys are the reason that we have been able to see the success we have in the area, and we are forever grateful to them for that. We love when partnerships like these can happen because it just brings all-the-more attention to this beautiful place we call home.

Community Pride

Western NC is our home now, and we firmly believe that everyone needs to experience this place first-hand. So we get super excited when our friends get the attention we believe they fully deserve. This includes our friends and partners: The Orchard at Altapass, which was recently featured in a PBS documentary and an article in the Special Issue by Our State Magazine called North Carolina Outdoors from Mountain and Sea.

The PBS documentary discusses the effects of climate change on how the people of North Carolina are affected by and adapting to the effects of a changing climate. Find the special here. The Our State article covers the best stops on the Blue Ridge Parkway for travelers, and of course, The Orchard had to be listed. The article offers a brief history of the orchard and where it is located, it can be found here.

These noteworthy events offer an incredible way to bring attention to the community and the issues that affect it. We want to do everything we can to love and support the people around us and we greatly appreciate everything the Orchard does to serve that purpose. We couldn’t be more excited to share what we have planned to bring more value to our partnerships and community. Stay tuned for more!
